The CNRS Unusual Visits offer something surprising, offbeat and unique, so that visitors can share special moments with scientists. Created in 2020, each year they offer experiences for small groups at the heart of research. From 4 to 14 October 2024, inaccessible sites, unusual experiments and unique events were on the programme throughout France.

In the New Aquitaine region, the PALEO team invited visitors to travel back in time and discover the many traces and works of art left by prehistoric humans and animals 20,000 years ago in the Villars cave! Specialising in the reconstruction of ancient climates from natural archives such as marine and continental sediments, coral and speleothems, our palaeoclimatologists gave a few lucky visitors the chance to observe the evolution of the climate deciphered in the stalagmites and to discover the methods used to study it.
