Oyster Records Assess changing CLimate and Environment

Camilla Lienart; ECOBIOC

Global change affects coastal ecosystems services and impact socio-economical activities. As Europe’s leading oyster producer, the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region face critical challenges from climate change and environmental stressors. Leveraging a multi-decadal array of climatic, biogeochemical and ecological data in advanced numerical and statistical analyses, this project proposes an innovative approach to unravel the complex interactions between oysters and their changing environment. The ORACLE project aims 1) to retrospectively study ecosystems trajectories and pinpoint key drivers of oyster growth, fitness and diet, and 2) to forecast future conditions of oyster farming using cutting-edge decadal climate predictions. The outcome of the project seeks to guide sustainable practices to enhance the resilience of the oyster farming to the challenges of a rapidly changing climate.
